About Downtown Sailing Center

The Downtown Sailing Center (DSC) is an award-winning, nonprofit 501 (c)(3) community sailing center offering sailing instruction and access to sailing through a variety of programming to the greater Baltimore community since 1994. We are located in the heart of Baltimore at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, within easy walking distance from the Downtown, Federal Hill, South Baltimore, Riverside, and Locust Point neighborhoods. The DSC is a certified Community Sailing Center by US Sailing, the national governing body of sailing. The DSC was recognized by US Sailing as the Outstanding New Program in 1997, Outstanding Seasonal Program in 1999 and Outstanding Community Program in 2012. In 2017, our former Executive Director, Lynn Handy, was awarded US Sailing's Virginia Long award for her efforts to improve sailing education at the national level. The Downtown Sailing Center programs are available to the entire community. For adults, we offer adult education, recreational sailing open sails, Thursday Night Racing and cruising education. For youth, we offer junior’s camp, outreach programming that includes STEM curricula, literacy education, and Sailing Instructor Certification. For persons with disabilities we offer "Access-ability Saturdays," racing education and group outings. The DSC’s many sailing programs include junior day camps, sailing programs for disadvantaged youth and persons with disabilities, adult lessons, recreational sailing, corporate outings and team building, racing, and cruising. Conveniently located in Baltimore's Inner Harbor the DSC docks at 1407 Key Highway are available for transient boats to take advantage of everything Baltimore has to offer! Although our docks don't have water or electricity they are a perfect place to tie up for an afternoon to enjoy Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Tie up and enjoy all the local attractions which include: Baltimore's Museum Of Industry The Visionary Art Museum Little Havana Bar and Restaurant The Science Center The National Aquarium and so much more! Due to BMI events and the security of our property all transients boaters are required to check in with the office 48 hours before tying up for the day. Our offices are open 9:00AM-5:00PM Monday-Friday and you can email us at info@downtownsailing.org.
