About St Ives Harbour

St Ives Harbour is a charming tidal harbour located in the historic town of St Ives, Cornwall. The harbour consists of three main piers—Smeaton’s Pier, West Pier, and New Pier—and is protected by two iconic lighthouses on Smeaton’s Pier. Traditionally, a fishing port dating back to the 14th century, St Ives still supports a working fishing fleet alongside recreational boating. Moorings & Facilities: The harbour offers approximately 140 tidal moorings available from 1st April to 31st October for vessels up to 6.7 metres. Due to demand, there is currently a waiting list for these moorings. There are four visitor moorings for boats up to 10 metres, with prior contact recommended before arrival (via Harbour Office or VHF Channel 16). Launching is possible but can be challenging during the summer months. Water sports equipment rentals, including kayaks and paddleboards, are available nearby at St Ives Watersports on Porthminster Beach. Tidal current is negligible inside the harbour but can be noticeable at the entrance, so caution is advised during tidal transitions. Commercial Services: Commercial moorings are available for fishing and passenger vessels up to 12.2 metres, with a waiting list. Fuel and ice are available for commercial operators by arrangement with the Harbour Master. Limited concession spaces around the harbour host local vendors such as ice cream and seafood stalls. Access & Parking: Several public car parks are located close to the harbour, including Sloop Car Park, Island Car Park, and Smeaton’s Pier Car Park. The harbour’s stone piers protect it from strong winds and currents, providing safe swimming and beach access nearby.
