About Helmsdale Harbour
Helmsdale was established in 1818 as a fishing village, primarily for herring fishing, similar to many other villages in the Highlands during that era. Presently, the harbour is a prominent characteristic of Helmsdale village, and several fishing vessels are stationed there, which gives it a sense of being a functional harbour.
